Who are the Sama? ( Art from Philippine )
There are also Sama groups in Zamboanga del Sur, Cotabato, Davao, southern Palawan and Capul island in Samar.
Outside of the Philippines, there are Sama found in northeastern Borneo, Sulawesi and Moluccas and other parts of Indonesia. The Sama classify themselves as Sama Dilaut (Sama of the sea or laot), generally those on stilt houses above the water, and Sama Daleya or Delaya (Sama of the land or ilaya), those who have settled along the coast.
Outsiders have referred to them as Samal although they believe that this has a bad connotation. In their tradition Sama signifies group unity; the analogy they use for their origin is pehak or fish eggs.
Navigators
The livelihood of these Sama groups comes from the sea. They are acknowledged excellent shipbuilders and navigators.
A specialized group on Sibutu island is also highly regarded as wood carvers. The Sama are generally Muslims although most practice what may be known as folk Islam.
Based on language, the Yakan, Jama Mapun and Badjao are also Sama. Sama-Badjao speaking groups are believed to have come to the Philippines around 800 AD in the area around the Basilan strait, and then travelled southward.
The Yakan are land dwellers residing primarily on Basilan island and their main economic products are from the land: coconuts, cacao, corn, rice, sugarcane, rubber and cattle. They do not regard themselves as Sama. The Jama Mapun are found mainly on the island of Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi.
Houseboats
There are also Jama Mapun communities in Palawan and Borneo. The term Badjao was used by the Borneans and those from Sulawesi to refer to the Sama who live in houseboats or lepa.
The boat-building industry is found mainly on Sibutu island, formerly a part of the municipality of Sitangkai in Tawi-Tawi.
Sibutu is some 20 miles southwest of Bongao, the capital of Tawi-Tawi. Some 25 miles farther, one would reach Borneo. Sitangkai island is much smaller than Sibutu but it is the commercial center west of Bongao.
Both Bongao and Sitangkai have commercial ports. The wide river that leads to Sitangkai serves as the marketplace itself, with numerous stalls lining the banks. Other vendors sell their fish directly from the boats and the river is always busy with all sizes of boats entering and leaving the area.
Sibutu does not have a good port, being surrounded by coral reefs and sand bars. The island of Sibutu itself is a coral reef measuring 18.5 miles long and 2.25 miles wide. This geographic character makes Sibutu one of the best fishing grounds in the country. However, there is a very limited area for growing vegetables, although coconut trees abound.
The staple is fish and pyutu (made from cassava), or rice which comes from Sabah. Fishing and boat building are the main economic activities.

By B. Colonna (Somewhere in NJ) - See all my reviews
If you are looking for a very small LCD TV, this is a nice product. If you have room for a 19", by all means I would go for the larger screen. Keep in mind that, even with the abundance of digital and high def signals out there today, many channels/programs will be broadcast in 4:3 format. Since this TV is a 16:9 profile screen, a 4:3 display will appear that much smaller on this 15.6" screen.
However, if you have a tight space, like on a kitchen counter under cabinets, this TV is perfect. It included a built in DVD player, which is a nice perk. The picture is vivid and HD display on it is excellent. At this size there is absolutely no reason to go for 1080p. For a 15.6" screen, or even a 19", 720p is fine.
At this screen size, Toshiba's competition tends to be "store brands" or no-name brands. This is the lone high quality name brand TV in this class (size).
What included in the box:
* 15.6" (measured diagonally) flat screen TV.
* Attached stand.
* Remote control.
* Power cable.
The TV comes with a QAM tuner so you can pull any unscrambled analog and digital TV signals from your cable company. The TV accepts coax and ColorStream component connections.
PROs:
* Vivid picture
* Fully adjustable backlight and picture format, as well as all the usuals (brightness, contrast, audio, etc.).
* Excellent sound.
* Matte finish screen reduces glare so screen is viewable in bright and low light situations.
CONs:
* Tuner is fairly slow when switching stations.
* Stand is not adjustable for different angles or height.
Overall, this is a nice TV for the price and has many of the functions you'd want. An adjustable stand would be nice but at this size its not a necessity. I'm not sure why the tuner lags as much as it does, taking approximately 2-4 seconds in between channels. If you channel-surf often, this will annoy you.
I would have rated this a 5 had it not been for the slow tuner.
So... what do you waiting for? check now for more information....

Probe into deadly plane crash

22/05/2009 10:23
Magetan, Indonesia - Investigators sifted through the charred wreckage of an Indonesian military plane on Friday to determine what caused a crash that killed 100 people. The defence minister said all C-130 Hercules would be grounded if mechanical problems were to blame.
It was the third accident involving a military aircraft in just two months and followed complaints that the air force was struggling to maintain its ageing fleet and hold on to experienced pilots.
The plane that plummeted to the ground on Wednesday - slamming into several houses and then skidding into a rice field, where it burst into flames - was almost three decades old.
But military spokesperson Sagom Tamboen insisted it was in good condition, passing both a maintenance and flight check earlier this week. Others noted that skies were clear and that while pilots were communicating with air traffic control, they gave no indication they were having problems.
"We're still investigating," said Tamboen, as teams cut through the twisted, metal fuselage.
There were 112 people on the C-130, which was carrying troops and their families from the capital, Jakarta, to Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua, home to a decades-long insurgency.
It was making several stops along the way and was attempting to land at an air force base in East Java province when it crashed.
Bambang Samoedra, commander of the base, said at least 100 people were killed, including two villagers on the ground. Fifteen others were injured, many with severe burns.
String of plane crashes
Indonesia's air force, long underfunded and handicapped by a recently lifted US ban on weapons sales, has suffered a string of plane crashes.
Twenty-four people were killed last month when a Fokker 27 crashed into an airport hangar during a training mission. And just last week another C-130 lost its landing gear and slammed into a house, injuring four people.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono promised a thorough investigation, and said a military budget shortfall was not affecting the safety of the fleet. But Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono disagreed.
"Ideally, the maintenance cost should be 20% to 25% of the overall military budget, but at present it's below 10%," Sudarsono said, promising to ground all C-130s if Wednesday's crash was the result of technical or mechanical failure.
But human error has not been ruled out, officials said.
The air force has experienced an exodus of experienced transport pilots in recent years, as they sought to join the rapidly expanding network of low-cost commercial airlines formed after the industry was deregulated.
The C-130s are the only aircraft in the Indonesian air force capable of transporting personnel and heavy military equipment - and emergency relief in the event of an earthquake, tsunami or other disaster. As such they are essential to the fleet, which covers the huge archipelago.
The military received more than 50 Hercules since the late 1950s, many secondhand and provided by Washington before the Clinton administration imposed sanctions on military deliveries because of violence that broke out during East Timor's 1999 break for independence.
The air force complained that many of the planes quickly became unserviceable because of the lack of spare parts. Though the embargo was lifted four years ago, the air worthiness of many planes remained in question.

Indonesian cultural and handicraft exhibition in Latvia
The event was held for the first time in Latvia with the support of Sleman district head and honorary consul Ayub Yunus, an Indonesian embassy spokesman in Stockholm, Dedy Kusumonegoro, told Antara correspondent in London by phone Friday.
In the opening ceremony of the exhibition last Saturday, Javanese traditional dances were performed by dancers from Sleman, Yogyakarta.
During the exhibition, there was a presentation on Indonesian traditional cloth and batiks, and a demonstration of batik-making by batik cloth producers.
According to Dody, the event was held just to promote the potentials of Indonesian tourism like natural tourism, culture, adventures, leisure and accommodation facilities.
The embassy also held a press conference on the exhibition and other activities.
Many print and electronic media in Latvia including the Latvian Television station covered the exhibition.
According to Dody, the exhibition marked the enhanced relations between Indonesia and Latvia in culture and tourism, and also aimed at familiarizing the Latvian community with Indonesia and its rich culture.

Do you know people say about this Kindle?? See what Ben say,,,
By : Ben C. Hobson "In chess the winner is the one... - See all my reviews, (February 24, 2009,amazon area)
******hello, my name is Ben. I'm a 29-year-old quadriplegic (paralyzed from the chest down, all four limbs affected. I can move my arms pretty well, but I have no use of my fingers and they are contracted.) Without the use of my fingers you can imagine how difficult reading books could be, but I loved reading and I found ways. I had a surgery about two years ago on my midsection which made it impossible to tolerate the weight of heavy books, and without the use of my fingers paperbacks were not an option (they would simply fall off the book holder when I tried to turn a page.) Into my life comes the Kindle. That was back in December when I got the Kindle 1. I literally shed tears as I realized Amazon had given me back the passion that had been stripped away from me after my surgery just as my mobility had been taken away 14 years earlier. Now just a few months later we have an upgrade. I feared an upgrade with a sleeker design would be the end of its handicap accessibility. I am here today to tell anyone with disabilities nothing could be further from the truth. For those of us with poor dexterity the five way controller can be manipulated easily with a knuckle, or even the side of your hand since the controller sits just slightly above the other buttons. This for me was a major improvement accessibility wise from the first unit since trying to push the button with my knuckle would often scroll down and select the wrong thing. The five way controller also takes very little force to push, I was often afraid of breaking the Kindle 1 with how hard I had to push on the wheel with the side of my hand. I love reading the newspaper every day, but reporters love to push the boundaries of our vocabularies, but the Kindle 2 dictionary is right there to keep us reading, and make sure we know exactly what we are reading so we don't misinterpret anything. The improved dictionary lookup is amazing. I no longer have to go to a menu and look up an entire lines worth of words. I just use the controller and go to the word I want and the definition is on the bottom of the screen :-) We can now access the Internet without turning over the Kindle to flip a switch :-) you just go to the menu and turn on the wireless. I couldn't tell you how many times I wanted to look something up I was reading in the newspaper only to find out I didn't have the wireless on. Turning it on then would've required me to call my caregiver, have them turn it on, leave the room while I did my research, and then call them back to turn it off. Thank you very much for the great improvement :-) The buttons are a little smaller, but not so small that they are not accessible. I can still easily hit the buttons with the side of my hand. The only real difference is now when my caregivers put the Kindle away for me they don't accidentally turn pages, or click a button and say "I didn't mess anything up did I?" Speaking of pushing buttons I loved reading magazines on my Kindle 1, the only problem was I didn't want to read every single article, and being disabled it was just a little inconvenient to have to keep clicking the wheel to get to the menus to scroll through the magazine. So what did my good friends at Amazon do for me? Well they went and made it so if I don't like the article I'm reading I just have to push my little joystick to the left or right one time to go to another article :-) Some people miss the memory card slot. I myself did not start reading e-books until the Kindle, and I have no problem with their prices for books. Since the device can hold 1500 titles and whatever erase from the device to make room is backed up at Amazon I have no complaints in that department. Anyway if I do find other e-books I like I can simply e-mail them to my Kindle :-) Yes we have to send our Kindle to Amazon to replace the battery, being disabled this is actually a convenience for me, and there are also a lot of music devices out there that you have to do the same thing. So I will not complain about this either :-) If I knew the e-mail address for Jeff Bezos I would happily send him this review that I will also be posting in the forums so he would personally know that he has truly changed one man's life for the better, that this device for some of us will not just be incredibly convenient, but that it will be life altering. In my profile is a picture of me holding the Kindle 2 reading one of my favorite books :-) I hope the picture shows accurately how easy it is for people with disabilities to use. I just put a pillow on my midsection so the book will have something to lean against while I turn the page with my knuckle. I can offer no higher praise so with that in my review ends. Thank you...... thank you Kindle team….***

Luwak Coffee
"Kopi" is the Indonesian word for coffee and "Luwak" is local name of this animal which eats the raw red coffee 'cherries' as part of its usual diet. This animal eats a mixed diet of insects, small mammals and fruits along with the softer outer part of the coffee cherry but does not digest the inner beans, instead excreting them still covered in some inner layers of the cherry.
Locals then gather the beans -- which come through the 'animal stage' fairly intact -- and sell them on to dealers. It is believed that enzymes in the stomach of the civet add to the coffee's flavour through fermentation of some type.
Like true coffee addicts, the guys over at Forbes have scoured the globe looking for the most expensive coffees in the world.
Starting off the list at $160 per pound is Kopi Luwak, this is followed by Hacienda La Esmeralda (Panama, $104/lb), Island of St. Helena Coffee Company ($79/lb), El Injerto (Guatemala, $25-50/lb), Fazenda Santa Ines (Brazil, $50/lb), Jamaica Blue Mountain ($49/lb), Los Planes (El Salvador, $40/lb), Kona ($34/lb), Starbucks Rwanda Blue Bourbon ($24/lb), Yauco Selecto AA (Puerto Rico, $22/lb), Fazenda Sao Benedito (Brazil, $21/lb).
The resulting coffee is said to be like no other. It has a rich, heavy flavour with hints of caramel or chocolate. Other terms used to describe it are earthy, musty and exotic. The body is almost syrupy and it's very smooth.

An important FOCUS Word!!, in PPC Online Business
However, if only that was the goal, it will feel narrow our way to see the benefits of Online Business PPC. Also, We will feel like running in place, if to see the income does not increase immediately, and ultimately we use all the ways to get the clicks.
Actually, more important is the process for achieving that goal. The process is long, tiring, but implemented with the spirit of honesty and high values have a higher satisfaction than just get clicks that are generated.
So, it's here a FOCUS word! is needed. We must remain committed, high concentration, and remains the focus in the conduct and attempt to succeed Online Business PPC that we manage. With fixed focus, bright ideas will appear, to make the optimization of our business.
One thing important here, never focus on half. Dive in the PPC Online Business world is not easy, but it also does not difficult unduly. Not easily, if we do not have the spirit and focus on running this business. And can be spelled out easy, simply because with just a blog, without any cost for register and maintenance of the hosting, we can implement this business.
We often see a blog that there are PPC ads, but are less visible treated, both in terms of design and the optimization of ad attached. This seems impressed PPC ads only as a complement of the blog. It is not fallacious, because in the internet world we are not entitled to blame and be blamed. Just such conditions, it is worthy to be pitied.
But not a few publishers who have felt the income from this business, and its value is significant. For example, some publishers in each month to get at least one million! even more. Very fantastic right? and the question is whether we do not want to like them?.
Income that has been perceived by some that publishers, of course not necessarily with, or with the magic words, become the money!!. However, the persistent need to struggle, and one of the prescription is FOCUS!
From now on, let's remember in mind, a word FOCUS ... FOCUS ... and FOCUS!. To burn the spirit so that we remain focused in Online Business PPC, remove far-feeling was a successful candidate was not from our minds. We must try to remain happy and enjoy in conducting this business, success is only a problem of time only.
Good Luck!

Succes definition
I have a friend who runs a small Internet business that sells one product. He spends an hour a day on his business. Sometimes he misses a day … or three. He basically works whenever he wants. He lives in a modest two-bedroom unit about 50 meters from the beach. He plays golf three times a week, and enjoys a long, leisurely lunch on Fridays. He takes himself off to sporting events whenever he feels like it, and he travels quite a lot. He always has enough money in his pocket to buy a beer.
Is he successful ?
Brendon Sinclair have a client who owns a spectacular business that turns over many millions of dollars each year. He employs a staff of 35 and is setting up for international expansion. He drives the latest Porsche, stars in his own TV commercials, and is well recognized for his wonderful business achievements. He works extraordinary hours, but he loves what he does.
Is he a success ?
Brendon Sinclair manage a business that has a few divisions. We do quite a lot of web development, market plenty of businesses, manage athletes, and own and manage a number of web sites. I start work at about 8.30 each morning, and finish at midday. I then go to my local pool and swim a mile or two, after which I go for a run or a bike ride. I might then spend an hour at my local beachside cafe thinking through a few business ideas that we might have on the go.
Are he successful ?
These are three very different businesses. Each business owner leads a very different lifestyle.
So, just what is success?
…Success is whatever you want it to be...
Yes, that’s a thoroughgoing cliche. But, like all cliches, it became a cliche via its essential truth.
When I was a young fellow of 21, my ambition was to make a million dollars by the time I was 30. Then I hit some tough times where I struggled to pay the bills and put food on the table. All of a sudden, my definition of success went from earning millions to simply being able to feed my family. Now that I’m older (and, hopefully, a little wiser), my definition of success has shifted. I still run my own business—I have for over a decade—and with large numbers of small businesses folding within their fledgling years, I think that means I’m successful at what I do. Goals change—and your definition of success can change.
My friend with the Internet business makes enough money to have a comfortable lifestyle compared to many people. I call him successful. Brendon Sinclair client with the Porsche, the large business and the long hours he loves, would also be a success in many people’s eyes.
Success isn’t merely financial surplus, though. This is an important distinction to make: it might be your definition of success, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re currently stuck in a boring, low-paid job that takes an hour’s drive to reach each morning, then running a freelance web development business from your spare bedroom that provides you with the exact same income might be your definition of success. Working from home, spending time with your family, running an interesting business, making a few dollars, and having fun? What could be better than that? Making $10 million a year might seem a bigger deal, but then that comes with its own issues, too.
Remember that only a tiny fraction of the population will achieve their dreams and major goals in their lives. Many people just hang around waiting for success to come along and smack them in the face. Well, it’s so unlikely to happen as to be out of the question. You have to get out there and grab life, reach for success.
No one else will do it for you—it’s completely up to you!
Imposible World
By keenly confronting the enigmas that surround us, and by considering and analysing the observations that I have made, I ended up in the domain of mathematics. Although I am absolutely without training in the exact sciences, I often seem to have more in common with mathematicians than with my fellow artists.
– M.C. Escher (from To Infinity and Beyond, Eli Maor)
The only remaining mystery is that of Escher himself. Did he understand what he was doing? Did he leave the center blank so that he wouldn’t have to forever repeat himself, or was he unsure of what should go there? Because the artist died in 1972, this part of the puzzle will forever remain a subject of speculation.
Hans de Rijk seems certain that Escher did not know that his picture was periodic, but just had some vague sense that things got smaller in the middle and he had to stop somewhere.
In his book, de Rijk quoted an amusing passage in a letter from Escher that seems to demonstrate Escher’s ignorance of the mathematics:
"Two learned gentlemen, Professor van Dantzig and Professor van Wijngaarden, once tried in vain to convince me that I had drawn a Riemann surface. I doubt if they are right, in spite of the fact that one of the characteristics of a surface of this kind seems to be that the center remains empty. In any case, Riemann is completely beyond me and theoretical mathematics are even more so, not to mention non-Euclidean geometry. So far as I was concerned it was merely a question of a cyclic expansion or bulge without beginning or end."
Lenstra finds it hard to speculate about Escher’s thought process: "I find it most useful to identify Escher with nature and myself with a physicist that tries to model nature," he says.
After the project was featured in The New York Times, a reader sent Lenstra his own completion of the picture, in which the spiral of buildings ends neatly at the center. Escher would have found this "dreadful," says Lenstra, since it was not consistent with his global idea.
Although Escher did not have a deep understanding of mathematics, it seems that his artistic vision incorporated a surprising mathematical consistency. Bart de Smit agrees: "We made our version of Escher’s grid from a formula. There was only one way to do it and Escher modeled it very well. It wasn’t completely right but it was almost right," he says. "I have respect for it."
"So do I," says Lenstra.
